My Chemical Romance have finally given an official release to “Someone Out There Loves You”, a song that has been circulating among fans for nearly two decades.
The track, released on 16 October, was recorded live at Maxwell’s in Hoboken, New Jersey, back in 2007. Until now, it had never received an official audio release, although footage of the performance had previously appeared on The Black Parade Is Dead! DVD.
For longtime fans, this isn’t exactly a new discovery. The song, often referred to as “Stay”, has been part of My Chemical Romance folklore for years. But there’s something rather satisfying about finally having an official version to listen to.
And the timing couldn’t be better.
Twenty Years of The Black Parade
The release arrives just a week before the 20th anniversary edition of The Black Parade, due on 23 October through Reprise Records.
Originally released in 2006, the album transformed My Chemical Romance from an already successful alternative rock band into something considerably bigger.
Songs such as “Welcome to the Black Parade”, “Famous Last Words” and “I Don’t Love You” helped define an era, but the record’s influence stretches well beyond the generation that first bought it.
The expanded anniversary edition features the original album alongside six bonus tracks, including three live recordings from the band’s intimate 2007 Hoboken performance and three previously released B-sides.
Original cover artist James Jean has also returned to create new artwork for the anniversary.
More Than Just Nostalgia
There’s always a danger with anniversary reissues that they become little more than another opportunity to sell fans an album they already own.
But “Someone Out There Loves You” gives this particular release something more interesting.
It’s a reminder of how much music can exist around an album without ever becoming part of the finished record. Songs get left behind, performances become bootlegs, and occasionally something takes on a life of its own among the fans.
Nearly twenty years later, this one finally gets its moment.
The release also comes as My Chemical Romance prepare for five nights at the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles, beginning on 21 October and concluding on Halloween.
For a band whose theatrical ambition helped make The Black Parade such a defining record, it’s a fitting way to celebrate its anniversary.
And while the album might be turning twenty, its connection with audiences clearly hasn’t disappeared.
If anything, a whole new generation is discovering why it mattered in the first place. It’s a connection that continues to reach across generations, long after the album’s original release. That connection is at the heart of our recent personal feature, I Finally Understood My Chemical Romance — Thanks to My Niece.
My Chemical Romance’s The Black Parade (20th Anniversary) arrives on 23 October 2026. “Someone Out There Loves You (Live from Hoboken)” is available now.
