The fallout from Hard Rock Hell’s cancellation has reached beyond the festival itself. Swedish hard rock band Crucified Barbara have confirmed that their planned London concert at The Dome on Saturday 7 November will not go ahead, after the collapse of the festival date that made the UK trip possible.

Hard Rock Hell 19 was due to run from 5 to 8 November at Seal Bay Resort in Selsey, West Sussex. Its promoter, Dark Watch, announced on 20 October that it had ceased trading and that its November events could not proceed. HRH Prog 16 was also among the affected events.

Why the London date was cancelled

Crucified Barbara had been due to appear at Hard Rock Hell on 6 November, followed by a separate show Downstairs at The Dome in Tufnell Park the next evening. In a statement reported on 1 November, the band explained that the festival booking was a prerequisite for the London performance. Without it, the additional date could not go ahead.

The 7 November London listing is now marked cancelled by Ticketmaster and other ticketing services. The band said tickets bought for The Dome would be refunded and directed festival ticket holders to the festival organisation for information about their bookings.

One cancellation, two lost stages

There is a wider story behind the dates disappearing. Our recent report on NOAHFINNCE and the cost of touring the UK explored similar pressures on artists. International bands often build short runs around a festival appearance, using an additional club show to reach fans in another city while travel costs are already covered. When the main booking falls through, the economics of the entire trip can change.

It is another reminder of how tightly connected the live music circuit is. The same fragility underpins the debate over independent venues, explored recently in our report on the campaign to save London’s MOTH Club. Here, it is a festival cancellation that has cost a separate London venue its scheduled headline act.

Questions also remain about the wider financial consequences of Dark Watch ceasing trading. Reporting by MetalTalk describes concerns over payments to artists and uncertainty for ticket holders. The company having ceased trading should not be taken to mean a formal insolvency appointment has been confirmed.

For ticket holders: Check the original ticket provider for information on The Dome refunds. Those with Hard Rock Hell bookings should consult communications from the organiser and, where appropriate, their card provider about available protections.
