Manchester indie-rock four-piece Corella have turned a frustrating chart mix-up into a milestone: their second album, A Beautiful World To Lose, has been confirmed at No. 1 on the UK Independent Breakers Chart.
The record was initially listed at No. 2 following a technical error in the Official Charts Company’s published results. The position was subsequently corrected, giving Corella their first chart-topper. Importantly, this is the Independent Breakers Chart, not the overall UK Albums Chart.
More than a chart correction
Released on 18 September through FLG Records, A Beautiful World To Lose also reached the top five of the Album Downloads, Record Store and Independent Album charts. Produced by Jason Perry, the record moves between the punch of Rewire and Jump Scare and more reflective tracks including Lost A Friend and All I Want.
Frontman Joel Smith acknowledged the disappointment of the initial result while showing respect for fellow northern band The Cheap Thrills, who were mistakenly credited with the top position. The correction, however, gives Corella a significant marker as their audience continues to grow.
Corella’s 2027 UK and Ireland tour
Corella have also announced their largest UK and Ireland headline tour so far, running through February 2027. It begins in Dublin on 9 February and Belfast on 10 February before taking in Glasgow, Newcastle, Leeds, Birmingham, Norwich, London, Portsmouth, Cardiff, Bristol and Nottingham. The run ends with a hometown show at Manchester’s Albert Hall on 25 February.
For a band that have steadily built their following through live shows and support slots, that Manchester finale feels particularly significant. This is the sort of momentum independent guitar music needs: a record finding its audience and a band getting the opportunity to take those songs into larger rooms.
