Bess Atwell has announced her fourth studio album, Cut A Figure, arriving on 5 February 2027 through Nettwerk, and shared its lead single, Glass.
The new record follows 2024’s Light Sleeper and was shaped by a nine-month stay in Quebec. Atwell subsequently worked with producer Chris Coady, whose credits include Beach House, Future Islands and DIIV, at his studio in California.
Being seen, and feeling invisible
Glass sits at the emotional centre of the album. Atwell has explained that its central idea concerns the paradox of wanting to be understood so intensely that the effort can leave someone feeling invisible. The album takes its name from a line in the song.
For more new British songwriting, see our coverage of Prima Queen’s forthcoming second album. Readers interested in producer Chris Coady’s work with alternative guitar music can also explore our recent DIIV coverage.
That tension offers a compelling introduction to the project: intimate songwriting concerned with identity and connection, set against a production approach that has encouraged Atwell to explore new possibilities.
2027 live dates
Atwell has also confirmed an international tour covering the UK, Ireland, Europe, North America and Australia. A London album-launch performance is scheduled for the Barbican on 6 February, with further UK shows later in the year.
Cut A Figure is due on 5 February 2027. Glass is available now.
